Stage

Tennessee: APRN, initial licensure

Prepare the state-specific education, certification, application and practice documents below. Separate prescribing approvals appear under Prescriptive Authority and State Rx / CS.

  1. APRN application packet

Arrange direct national-certification verification and official conferred-degree transcript. Maintain TN RN or compact RN authority. Apply in LARS; upload RN license, notarized citizenship declaration and citizenship proof. Complete the practitioner profile and, if applicable, criminal-history explanation and certified disposition records.

  2. NP practice and prescribing

The joint nursing and medical-board rules require supervision and written clinical protocols for certified NP/prescription writers. Prescribing requires a certificate of fitness, the supervising physician information and a formulary. Controlled substances require DEA authorization.

    Timing
    During practice
    Conditions
Supervision does not mean the physician must be continuously on site, but availability and the rule’s review requirements apply. No experience-hours route to removing this relationship is stated in these rules.

Coverage and conditions

  • Use the checklist for the standard NP route. International education, reentry, military pathways, older educational exceptions and disciplinary history can require additional board documents. Submit the board’s current application; this site does not submit it for you.
